Category 04

Battery materials, scrap and recycling

The recycling half of the EV supply chain. The material sits with one set of companies, the demand sits with another, and the two rarely find each other.

Refiners and cathode producers are buying feedstock right now: black mass, end-of-life packs, production scrap. The material itself sits somewhere else entirely, with salvage operators, dismantlers, fleets retiring vehicles and cell plants generating offcuts. Those two groups work in different industries and read different trade press. They are not going to bump into each other.

Closing that gap is the job. We work the recycling and scrap side rather than primary mined concentrate, which moves on multi-year offtake agreements where an intermediary adds nothing.

What we source

What we broker in battery materials.

Black mass

Shredded and processed lithium-ion material, the intermediate feedstock refiners buy by the tonne.

End-of-life EV battery packs & modules

Packs recovered from salvage, collision and fleet retirement, sold for recycling or second-life use.

Battery production scrap

Cathode and anode offcuts, and off-spec material generated by cell manufacturing.

Second-life battery packs

Packs with meaningful capacity remaining, repurposed for stationary storage rather than shredded.

Non-ferrous scrap

Aluminium, copper and lead streams, including metals recovered alongside battery material.

Refinery feedstock

Cobalt hydroxide and nickel intermediates bought by refiners producing battery-grade sulfates.

Graphite & anode material

Natural flake and synthetic graphite for anode production.

Who this is for

Both sides of the deal.

If you're buying

Refiners, recyclers, cathode and anode producers, and cell manufacturers buying feedstock. If you are short of black mass or packs, you are who this category exists for.

If you're selling

Salvage yards, auto dismantlers, collision recyclers, fleet operators retiring EVs, and cell plants with production scrap sitting on site.

Questions

Questions we get asked.

What is black mass and who buys it?

Black mass is the shredded, processed remains of lithium-ion batteries, containing lithium, nickel, cobalt and graphite in mixed form. It is bought by refiners and recyclers who extract those metals and return them to the battery supply chain as battery-grade material. We broker it between the operators who generate it and the refiners who buy it.

Do you broker end-of-life EV battery packs?

Yes. Packs recovered from salvage, collision damage and fleet retirement, sold either for recycling or for second-life stationary storage. Tell us the chemistry, the approximate state of health and the volume, and we will find the right buyer.

Do you handle primary mined minerals?

No. We deliberately work the recycling and scrap side rather than primary mined concentrate. Primary material moves on multi-year offtake agreements negotiated directly between miner and refiner, where a broker adds no value and cannot earn a fee honestly. Scrap and recycled feedstock trade very differently, and that is where we are useful.
